Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup was born following the quest of the Victoria Turf club to put on a 'good handicap' which would rival its counterpart. the Victoria jockey club.

The Melbourne Cup has long been landed as the race that stops a nation and the race which has become ingrained in the Australian culture. It's a race buit on dreams, on hard luck and triumph. It's a race which is also survived by tragedy. But while the Cup continues to evolve it will remain the greatest 3200 metre horse race any where in the world and by the nature of the conditions, arguably the most challenging to win.

The race created considerable interest from its inception in 1861. The Cup is run at Flemington and was a recognised venue for race-meetings conducted by the Victoria Turf Club.

By 1880,100,000 people made the journey to Flemington to witness Grand Flaneur secure Austrelia's greatest race prize. With a Melbourne population of only 290,000, this attendance was quite phenomenal 1950 marked a new dawn in Melbourne Cup histiry of the Adelaide trainer Jim Cummings would win the Cup with Comic Court.

If there was ever a tuming point in the history of the Melbourne Cup then no doubt it was 1993. For the first time in the history of the race, the winner was trained off a European preparation.

It was at this time that the Melbourne Cup carnival reached new heights. Attendances continued to climb, overseas media interest grew and by 2000, the Cup attendance would reach the highest in its history with 121,015 recorder on the day.

Six year girl

I read this article last night. I felt very sad in my heart. In developing countries many families rush about life. Their children bear the pressure.

Carmen has four brothers and sisters. They finish their class and go to meet their mother at a huge intersection of the city. They stay until their mother finishes work at 8 pm. They take turns to sleep, do homework and help their mother sell something. I think Carmen, the girl who sat and slept so sweetly on the stone, is very tired because she is only six years old. They live a hard life, but they are strong. I can't imagine, how I could grow up with the dangers, pollution and fatigue that she and her siblings go through.

I wish they grow up happily and have a better life than their mother in the future.

An event

I have taken part in an activity like this before one day last June, my classmants and I cooked somefood, brought it to school and sold it for raising funds. The money was donated to the cancer research institute. Although everybody was very tired when finished this task. We felt very happy.

In China, many children can't go to school, because their families are very poor. Teenagers go to work instead of studying school. People raise funds to help them go back to school, wich is called "hope project".

My hometown

My hometown is a beautiful city. It's the second biggest city in Fujian province. 2 million people live there. The most famous part is Gulanyu island. Every year many tourists visit it. Visitors can enjoy its many seafood restaurants. They visit spectacular beaches, national parks and wildlife parks. The view is very nice and Gulanyu is a great place to relax.

I like my hometown. I love the beaches. I love the sun, surf and sand. I usually spend hours in the water in summer. Everything else disappears. There's just the surf and me.

I came here nine months ago. I often feel homesick. I miss the air of my hometown and beaches.

A great holiday

My husband and I visited LUGU lake in China two years ago. I liked it very much.

It's a beautiful small town in Yunan province,in Southwestern China. The town is next to a big blue lake and bush. The air is clean and fresh. In that season, many birds fly from the north and stay there. We saw a lot of colours all around. It was fantastic, expecially when the was shining.

When we arrived there it was already dark. People were holding a party on the grounds. Youngs boy and girls wore traditional clothes, dancing and singing. They sang folk songs loudly. There were many stars in the sky. It was cold, but everybody felt very warm and excited. We joined them and enjoyed it until midnight.

On the second day. We got up early. We went for a long walk through the forest.Next, the villagers paddled us to am island in centre of the lake. We visited a local resident's home. He told us many things about their lives here which were different from ours. I felt very surprised, because they lived in matriarchy. Then we took some photos with their family. We had lunch together. We ate some fish, meat and vegetables and drank some wine. It was green food which was rare in the city. The food was fresh and healthy. The wine was made from a kind of wheat. It tasted fantastic. Some people got drunk. I wish I could stay there for longer next time.

It's my favourite place. It was a great holiday. We'll always remember it.

Twin sister

Last week.I saw the paper about Jessica and Natalie . They are identical twin sisters with manes of curly brown hair. They are 26 years-old now, they can't bear to be separate and they live together every day. So they both work in the same job. Even if they get married they have a dream of living next door to each other. I felt really fantastic. I understand their emotion. I hope I can have a twin sister in my next life .we can see the moon and the planets together. We can travel all over the world and do everything together. I will feel very happy. That will be a very different life for me.

I will remember this story , because it likes meditating. My heart affect by their emotions.

my first impressions of Australia

In September of 2006 my family and I came to Sydney and began our new life. My first day in Australia was both a happy and a strange experience. At 10 o'clock in the morning, we arrived at Sydney airport. The sun was shinning when we went out. The air was fresh and clean. The sound of the birds and beautiful colours was all around us. I liked them very much. I liked it here.

Then my friends took us to their home, which was quite a short drive. By the time we reached there I was able to relax. After lunch we rested for half an hour.

In the afternoon my friends took us to the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was fantastic,. A lot of people were there. Some people lay down under the trees, some people drank beer in the bar. I felt everybody was very happy. We were there and walked along the cove until night time. In the evening , we ate a lot of delicious seafood and drank some wine for two hours in a restaurant. Finally I felt very tired and we went back home. I got to bed early.

It was a great day. I don't want to forget that.
